No, the winner (or loser) does not have to kiss a pig! This trivia night event is a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association through Kiss-a-Pig candidate Nikki Iozia. The Kiss-a-Pig Gala sees candidates from the Springfield area raise money in an effort to hold the distinguished honor of kissing a live pig. A pig is honored because insulin, the medicine used to help control diabetes, was first made from the pancreas of a pig. It is our way of saying, “Thanks!”
The Springfield Kiss-A-Pig Gala will benefit diabetes research, advocacy, education and programs such as Camp Granada, a summer camp for children with diabetes.
The mission of the American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. |
