Here are a few things that will probably come up at a trivia night at some point in the future.
- This was the Dallas Mavericks’ first NBA championship.
- Dirk Nowitzki is the 2nd foreign-born player to win the Finals MVP award. Â Tony Parker, who was born in Belgium was the first in 2007. Seven other foreign-born players are on the rosters of the Mavs & Heat.
- Even though the perception may have been that the Miami Heat was the team built on a huge payroll, the Mavericks have the #2 payroll in the league ($90,764,633) behind the Lakers. Â The Heat’s payroll was ONLY $66,949, 192.
- This is the 2nd time the Mavs and Heat have met in the Finals.  In 2006, the Heat came out on top behind MVP Dwayne Wade.  Only 5 players from the 2006 Finals remain on the rosters of the two teams.  Besides Nowitzki and Wade, the 2011 rosters include Jason Terry of the Mavericks and Udonis Haslem and Erick Dampier of the Heat. Dampier played for Mavericks during The Finals 2006.
- Before the season started, Jason Terry had the NBA Championship Trophy (Larry O’Brien Trophy) tattooed on his right bicep.
- Of the three major professional sports teams in Dallas, the Mavericks were the last to win a championship. Â The Cowboys have won 5 Super Bowls (1971, 1977, 1992, 1993, 1995) and the Stars won their only Stanley Cup in 1999 over the Buffalo Sabres.
